Any Idea What These Plates Are?

From time to time even the eBay Queen can be stumped. These plates
definitely have me stumped.
Any ideas what these plates are? Could those things hold napkins?

I take it there’s nothing on the back? Are they ironstone? Does the feel tell you they’re “old” or “new” … my guess is you’ve found something terrific.
