Confirmation Class: Choosing Christ
December 28, 2008
Choosing Christ means continuing with Him
1. Do you remember when you first accepted Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior? What happened?
The first time you choose Jesus Christ is just the beginning. You don’t choose Him only once and then stop. You need to grow in your relationship with him. Sometimes, you will find you will need to reaffirm your choice in Jesus Christ.
2. In the first part of II Timothy 3:14, what does it say we should do?
It’s easy to make a choice once, but then drift away from it some time later. Many people become spiritual drop-outs. There are thousands of people wandering around in sin and spiritual confusion, who chose Jesus Christ once upon a time, but didn’t stay with Him. The sad thing is that most of them didn’t realize they were drifting away. It happened so gradually and accidentally. They just slid away little by little, until one day there was a big separation between them and Christ.
3. How can you avoid that happening to you?
4. In John 15:4, what does Jesus tell us to do?
Every so often, dedicate your life to Christ again. Every birthday, every Christmas, every Easter, and perhaps on other special days, take the time to say again that you still choose Christ and intend to follow Him. During these times of dedication, examine your life, your habits, and your attitudes.
a. Are you still giving enough time every day to Bible reading and prayer?
b. Are you still attending worship and Bible study regularly?
c. Are you still witnessing for Christ and growing spiritually?
5. In Hebrews 10:36, what does it say we need?
7. If you knew someone who had chosen Christ in the past, and then drifted away and stopped following Him, what could you say or do to help them get back on the right track?

Confirmation Class: Publicly Professing Christ
December 21st 2008
Publicly Professing Christ
1. Is it hard for you to talk about being a Christian? If so, what worries you about it?
Jesus wants disciples who will stand up and be counted—who are willing to speak out publicly and say they believe in Him. This is not always easy to do. Some people might make fun of you. Others might dislike you, and make fun of you for being a Christian. In some countries today, people who speak out publicly for Christ are persecuted by the government. They are fired from their jobs. They are arrested by the police and thrown in jail. We should be willing to confess Christ publicly even though those things might happen to us, because that shows that our faith is real and not just a false front.
2. According to Romans 10:9 besides believing in our hearts that God raised Jesus from the dead, what else must we do, in order to be saved?
It is when a person makes a public profession of faith in front of the congregation, that the Church recognizes him or her as a full member with all rights and privileges, such as voting for officers of the Church, or even becoming and officer yourself. Our public profession shows that we are ready to accept responsibility for the sake of Jesus Christ. But professing Christ publicly is not something that you do only once. It is something you do over and over again, not as a part of a ceremony, but by your everyday words and actions. You should never be afraid to act like a Christian, even when it means being different from the rest of the crowd. Be willing to stand up ad be counted for the Lord.
3. In Matthew 10:32, who does Jesus say that He will acknowledge (or confess or declare) before His Father in heaven?
What does this mean to you?
4. Read John 19:38. Why had Joseph of Arimathea been a secret disciple of Jesus? Is this the best way to be His disciple?
5. Besides saying publicly that we believe in Christ, what can we do to show others that we believe in and follow him?
6. What is your favorite Christmas memory?
7. How would you define the true meaning of Christmas
8. Have you ever offended anyone by talking about Jesus at Christmas? If so what happened?
9. Is our culture in danger of losing the message of Christ at Christmas?
10. How can we share the message of Christ without being offensive?
