Order and Discipline in the Church
1. How does I Corinthians 14:40 say things should be done in the Church?
The Bible teaches that Christians in the Church are to work together as a team, just as the parts of a healthy human body do. This means that there has to be order and discipline in the Church. There must be agreement on what it is supposed to be accomplished. There must be organization, in which each member has certain jobs to do. There has to be leadership, to make sure that the rules, purposes and plans are clear, and confusion and mistakes are corrected. There has to be respect for the leaders and for all members.
2. According to the first part of Hebrews 13:17, how should Christians behave toward the leaders of the Church?
Through the Bible, God has given us a foundation for order in the Church, by naming certain types of leaders, or officers, such as elders (I Peter 5:1). But He has also left room for some freedom and variety in the details of that organization, in order to enable the Church to do its job in different circumstances at different times and places in human history. Churches need to be able to adapt their form of organization to minister most effectively in the changing circumstances of the world around them.
3. What does Galatians 6:1 say we should do if a fellow Christian commits a sin?
As a church member, you should know how your own congregation is organized, so that you can participate in its activities and in its government in a responsible and knowledgeable way.
4. How does Galatians 6:2 say Christians should act toward one another?
5. What does Colossians 3:13 say we should do if we have a complaint or grievance against another Christian?
6. What would happen to the Church if there were no rules, teamwork, or leadership, and everybody just did whatever they felt like all the time?
7. How can church members work together as a united, effective team?
8. Name the session members of our church:
9. Name some committees or groups that help make our church run.
