First Auction of the Year….

I went to my first auction of the year today. I haven’t been to an auction is quite awhile.  It was a nice day, super cloudy and about 72 degrees.  I headed up the the new “Eastern Kansas Auction”.  I say new.. because it used to be not far from my house, and they stopped having auctions for a while.. now they’ve moved to a new location up on the hill in Ottawa.

These beautiful flowers were sitting in the office at the new auction barn. Don’t you love the silver basket vase?

What would an auction be without old men talking?

I didn’t know it when I took the photo.. (because I was pretty sure I was leaving before I bought anything) but see that green circle thing?  It’s a Fiesta cup holder.. it’s mine 🙂 now.

How cute is this little girl with her dog?

I bought two stained glass windows that came from a George Washburn (designed) House in Ottawa, some Mary cherry dishes.

Cute little painted box (for me) the Fiesta cup holder and a blue and white rug that was in with some stuff.

When  I come home my kids run out to see what I got.. and to see if they just might have snagged something too. Here’s child #5 looking over the backseat at my junk.  This is the “do you have anything for me mom” face?

WHAT? You didn’t get me anything? He’s an animated little booger isn’t he?

It’s a Wine Tasting.. instead of a Whine Fest!

Child #1 and I went to a Wine Tasting.  She is a FRINK or a Friend of Ink…. which means she is a panel writer for Ink Magazine/Newspaper.  In case you are wondering Ink is a super hip newspaper/magazine  for people… who live in and around Kansas City. She was invited to meet the other Frink Panel writers.  I of course went because well.. #1 won’t drive.

We headed to 17th and Baltimore in Downtown Kansas City to the Cellar Rat.

We parked outside in front of this fabulous mural/painting by T. Wilson.  I don’t know who T. Wilson is.. but #1 and I thought it was a great mural.

Here’s #1 looking over the wine selection.

They have a HUGE selection.. (if you couldn’t tell) and some great beers, oil, cheese, and vinegars too.  We tasted 3 wines they were:

  • Dona Paula Sauvignon Blanc; Juicy and frmly built, with good definition and energy to the flavors of lime, grapefruit, tropical fruits and peppery herbs.
  • LaGarrigue Cotes Du Rhone; A big, sweet bouqut of Licorice, garrigue, kirsch liqueur, and black fruits is followed by a dense, opulent, medium to full boddied, supple, luscious mouthfeel.
  • Boekenhoutskloof the Wolftrap;  Has good concentration, with soft edges, shoing plum, anise & violet notes backed by a toasty finihs.  A blend of Syrah Mourvedre and Viognier.

My favorite? The Dona Paula Sauvignon Blanc. The red wine was good too.. but whenever I drink red wine I want to eat with it. It’s not my favorite (red wine) without food.

Here’s something you don’t see everyday out where I live.. Trees growing on roof tops!  Out in the country our trees grow on the ground.  Ok.. I know, I know.. It’s a roof top patio something.. But there was just something about it that made me smile.

Blenko Owl Bookends? Glass dudes? You decide…

When I found these cute Blenko glass owls in a box -o- junk at a local auction I thought “Hey these are going to be big sellers!”   Blenko glass is a big collectible.. But..  It never happened.. they never sold.

I mean really,.. my photos were good.. What the heck is the problem. There was no damage.. But I never received a bid.

But I never received a bid.  This kind of baffling stuff happens on eBay, and no one ever knows why.  So tell me.. do you have anything FABULOUS.. that you can’t figure out why it didn’t sell? Send your photo in with a description.. maybe it will make the next..  IT NEVER SOLD…
