That Time I Got a Hex Put On Me.

A couple of weeks ago I had a buyer upset that an item they purchase went on sale.  She wanted a partial refund OR wanted to return it and purchase it at the sale price.   We have a public rule that states “we do not give refunds on previous non-sale orders.”  I offered a full refund once the item was sent back.

(I know that it would be easier to give a partial refund.  This is not my account, and I follow the rules that have been set forth for me.)

Of course she could not just accept the label and send the item back.  Instead she opened a return request, then a PayPal request.  The return request was closed because you can’t have 2 requests opened at the same time for the same item.

She made some feedback threats on this item and on the other items she had purchased.  She left a message for me saying she was a “practicing witch and was going to put a hex on me”.  At this point I was not too worried but I blocked her from purchasing from us again.

She sent several messages through PayPal not wanting to send the item back. Time was dwindling and she ended up sending it.  When it arrived she was refunded.

Here comes the good part:

She systematically opened a SNAD return request on eBay and left a negative for each item that she purchased before that original non-sale item that she bought.

FOUR of them.

FOUR negatives and 4 open SNAD claims. She also put bad reviews on the company’s Facebook, website  and several other complaint sites.

Each return has a special note for me.

The notes are custom written for me and because they lack kind words and grammar, I probably should not post them here.  But I can tell you one of them said; “I am a retired person of great wealth. You are missing out on my purchases.  There are other sellers out there, I will buy from them.”

Please do.

Did the Hex work? Who can say? eBay removed the negatives, and a this point I’m glad to move on from this bizarre experience.  What is you most bizarre eBay experience?

Dear eBay Queen: Do Best Offers REALLY Work?

Dear eBay Queen:

I’ve been selling for 6 months.  I’ve been seeing that other sellers have “best offer” on their listings.  What do I need to do to have this on my listings, and does it really make a difference?

Teresa J; Lake Elsinore, California

Dear Teresa:

I can not say enough good things about Best Offer. I manage a couple of eBay ID’s.  With my own personal ID, everything I list is fixed price with best offer.  For the other ID’s I manage, I only put best offer on some items.  When you add Best Offer to your eBay listings, you’re giving buyers the opportunity to negotiate with you. Once the buyer makes an offer, you can accept, decline, or make a counteroffer.

Here are some of the interesting pros and cons of best offer.

  • After receiving an offer, you have 48 hours to choose how to respond.  I have found the faster you respond the better.
  • If you set up automatic responses in your listing, eBay can accept or decline a Best Offer for you, based on the price limits you select. eBay buyers won’t know what that limit is, and they are encouraged to make a better offer when it’s low.

I don’t like to use “automatic response”, because I like to respond to my buyer personally.  PLUS you never know when I just might feel like getting rid of that item.

  • Even if the offer is SUPER LOW, always respond/counteroffer.  I’ve had buyers offer me $5.00 on a 150.00 item.  I will counter with $140.00 and put a note: Thank you so much for your offer unfortunately with free shipping and returns this is as low as I can go.  and.. They except!
  • Price your fixed price items a little bit above what you want for them when using Best Offer. That way you won’t mind a lower price.

For instance; let’s say you purchased a vintage fishing lure for 12.00 at a garage sale.  You know that you should get 50.00 out of it considering its condition and age.  I would put my fixed price at $60.00 or Best offer.   You’ve got 12.00 in it+ 3.60 first class shipping total 15.60  If your buyer offers 40.00 your still making ok money but I would counter them at 50.00. If they counter offer you back 45.00, I’d probably take it.

Just pick out a few listings and try it out.  I know that my sell-through is better when I use Best Offer.  Make sure you let me know how it works out for you.

Crazy eBay Return: “I’ve Been Deceived!”

This is a true return story.  It really did happen.  This lady had a remorse return and because her first email to me was off the charts, I thought I would be smart and save myself time by just having her open a return request and NOT fighting the fact that she did not like the size.  If you chose to read farther down, you will see that it did not save me much time.

I received this message from the buyer… PLEASE Note.. this was their first message to me.

I have been “DECEIVED !” The item is nothing like what I thought is was going to be …true , it is about / almost 20″ tall , but …. 1/2 of that is the STEM ! The lighted area is only , about 8 1/2″ tall ! Needless to say , I am not very happy that this has occurred and look forward to leaving you my “TRUTHFUL FEEDBACK” on this item !
A NOT SO HAPPY CUSTOMER !
(I have purchased items from you before and was happy with them , now I feel cheated and I think I will no longer deal or purchase from you anymore !)

I apologized and asked them to open a return request.  I uploaded a label to them, and they sent me this message:

she requires a “lidget” one.

I messaged her back the following:

“That is a good label. You need to print it off and attach it to the box. If it prints out large, it is a settings issue.  But don’t worry about that, it happens a lot.  I have attached a photo to show you a return that is sent back using a large printed label.”

She sends back

“Hey ….just what do you want me to do with this so called “return shipping Label ?” Come on now ….. send me a good & proper one ! Thank you ! (copies of what sent have been printed / downloaded & stored for further use … if needed)”

She sends another message:

“I print your photo off of the download and it prints a full sheet of paper ! I have never gotten a return shipping label like nor have I been treated so rudely by an E-Bay seller !”

BEFORE I can answer that message, she sends another

“Let’s make it happen , I am not happy with this item ! What do we do now ? Let me know !”

And another:

“Hey sendme  alabel. I need a new label this is crazy.  What the h— is wrong with you?”

I respond:

“I know it seems a bit weird, but I promise the label even though it is large it will scan and ship just fine. I am sorry that you are unhappy.  Please take the item to the post office.  If it does not scan in for them I will mail you a new label”

She responds:
“YEA …I AM TRYING !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  Your are going to get some nasty feedback with this one girrl.”

She responds again:

“Tomorrow morning , I will be going to the P.O. , along with you printed out messages / your phone number , messages from E-bay and your PHOTOGRAPH of the return postage label that I , also tried to print out (3-sizes) and see what can be done !
IF I GET LAUGHED AT , AND THEY TELL ME I CAN NOT USE , I WILL BE CALLING YOU !”

I respond:

“I’m sorry you think I am rude. I have tried to be helpful from the start. There is a glitch in eBay’s returns and on some items it requires me to upload a label instead of eBay giving you a label.  When that happens I have to send a label to you.  The only way for me to do that is to scan or photograph a label email it to myself then upload it to eBay.”

She responds:

“Hope so , I want to be done with this . Too much time has already been wasted on this matter !”

Again:

“THIS IS THE ABSOLUTE WORST EXPERIENCE i HAVE HAD IN TRYING TO RETURN AN ITEM !”

AGAIN:

“I , in my life , have never , ever , seen a business (supposedly .. as big as yours) that doesn’t have a SCANNER / included with a printer ! And I know you have a printer for your computer ! “NEVER !”
LOL”

You can see HOW MANY MESSAGES she sent.. and this is only the first 25.

I respond:

“I am not sure what you mean.  We do have a printer and a scanner, but that will not help when YOUR printer is printing out full size.  I can’t send the label through the mail, as eBay wants me to upload it to the transaction so that you do not have to wait for the label to come in the mail.  The full size label will be fine on the box.  USPS will be able to scan it no problem.  I am so sorry this has been an issue for you.”

She responds:

“You are out there …girl”

AGAIN:

“YEA , SURE ….D— A– ….THE SAME LABEL (here’s the kicker) “AT THE SAME SIZE !” IT’S THE SIZE THAT MATTERS ! (you .. are .. out there) LOL”

AGAIN:

“Not a G– D— “PHOTOGRAPH TAKEN FROM YOUR PHONE ! TOO FUNNY …GIRL ! lol-lol-lol”

I respond:

“I checked the label and see it’s been scanned by the post office yesterday.  Since the label worked, and the package is on it’s way back, I do not see that we need to message about this any further. I will refund your money as soon as it is returned.”

She responds:

“D— A– You REALLY are that and much , much more now I see ! LOL”

AGAIN:

“You’re not really TECH savvy , are you ? LOL”

AGAIN:

“GIRRRL you are d— LOL”

I respond:

“You’ve been reported to eBay, and blocked from purchasing from us.  Please do not message me again.  I will refund your money once the item arrives”

She Responds:

“”PLEASE , LETS BOTH STOP COMMUNICATING WITH OTHER , IT IS GOING TO GET OUT OF HAND , BECAUSE YOU DON’T LIKE ME & I DON’T CARE FOR YOUR ATTITUDE ! “
THANKS SO MUCH FOR ALL YOU HAVE DONE !
HAVE A GREAT DAY !”

AGAIN:

Oh … one more thing ….. “YOU ARE BLOCKED ALSO !” LOL

AGAIN:

AGAIN:

“Oh … one more thing ….. “YOU ARE BLOCKED ALSO !” LOL You st_pid witch!”

Again:

“Where’s my money?”  The item arrived at your post”

Again:

“Thanks for the refund ! It truly was an awful experience dealing with you ! Please take me off your mailing list , I wish not to receive any more catalogs from you , they will only end up in my cats litter box ! A good use for it ! LOL Oh well you know what you are and you will always be that to me ! LOL
Have a good day and thanks again “

One more for good measure:

WITCH!!”  LOL!

Weird Emails from eBay’s Customer Service

In the last few months I’ve noticed I’ve received an increased number of messages from eBay.  The latest one I received says:

Hello Suzie,

This is XXX from eBay Resolution Center.

I am writing in behalf of XXX about item XXXX

The buyer has called us and let us know that she is open for a replacement but she will be needing some time to return the item because of her condition (handicapped). We strongly advise that you respond to the email and continue communicating with the buyer.

Thank you for choosing eBay. We appreciate your cooperation.

Sincerely,

XXX

eBay Customer Service

The way I read this is that I was maybe NOT communicating with the buyer.  Which is not the case.  I did call eBay and they told me the buyer wanted me to wait before I closed the case.   It seems unusual to me that the customer would not just ask.
