The President Comes to Kansas or Maybe to Dinner?

Something epic is arriving in Kansas…

The President arriving at KCI..

President Obama will be less than 15 miles from our little compound..  but we won't get to see him..  I not the biggest Obama fan, but I am a HUGE fan of the United States! How off is a sitting president 15 miles from your house?

airforce one, marine one, president obama, osawatamie kansas, president visits Kansas

He's flying in Marine One to Osawatomie Kansas (population: 4665)

This is the Osawatomie High School I thought I would try to get a couple of the 400 tickets they were giving out for his speech, but there were about 400 people in line around 20 minutes after it was announced President Obama would be speaking. I thought this would be quite a "homeschool" experience to give my children.

#4 and #5 don't quite understand how far away 15 miles is.. but they seem to think that President Obama *could* land in our back field.  They've been talking for days about what would happen if he landed in our back field.

#4 is pretty sure he would come in and check out our Christmas decorations.  He thinks that the President would want to eat dinner with us. I asked him what he thinks I should make the President for dinner, he said; "your home made pizza."

#5 is pretty sure that The Man would be mad, and wouldn't want the President in our house.  (The Man is a Republican).  #5 thinks I should make lasagna, because that's his (#5's)  favorite snack!

It would be pretty cool if the President came to our back field, and if anything it would make great blog fodder. 🙂

More From The First Day of School

We started school Monday… This is only Thursday.. of the same week.. but feels like a Thursday somewhere in the future.  I guess that means  It's been a long week.

#5 and his cookie

We have a new-ish bakery in Ottawa Kansas called Keim Bakery.  I went in there last week to write my article in peace.. and picked up a few cookies for the monkey's first day of school

#4 devouring his cookie

#2 and his cookie

Here's #4 and #3.. eating their cookie

This looks like the same photo.. but it's not.. Can you see what's different?

If you said.. the dog.. You'd be right. He didn't get an apple cookie. He should have, because he's so stinkin' cute. I love his flippy floppy ears.

Best You Day 58

I took a brief hiatus from my "Best You" blog posts because of  Extreme Home Makeover and a Mission Trip to Joplin.

What did I do today? It was our first day of school.. and what a crazy day it was. It was my first day with 4 children in school and 1 baby thinking he should be in school.  Or at least getting the attention he normally gets when school is not in session.

What did I feel today? Slightly frustrated.. and a little tired

What do I feel grateful for today? The man brought Oklahoma Joe's home for me. 🙂 It made my day.

What challenged me?  whining.. grumpy, impatient children.

How did I overcome that challenge? I called the principal and whined to him.

What did I savor today? I was reminded again what a HUGE job I have being responsible for my childrens education.

How about you? What are your answers? Here is why I'm doing this.

First Day of School 2011

Yesterday I posted our 1st day of school photos from years past. HERE It looks like this year isn't much different.

There are the 2 models.. and the 2 that look like they want to be somewhere else.  There is also the 1/2 naked baby.  We aren't sure about him.

When I look at this picture… I see #4 standing there in front.. looking cute, #5 in the yellow STILL trying to talk instead of get his picture taken..  #3 is trying to smile while holding her brother back.. I don't know what is wrong with #2…  he looks like he just lost his best friend.  Then there's #6.. the baby.  I think he's looking for something to drool on or maybe wondering why his mother doesn't dress him in the morning.

Just in case you wanted to know what a homeschooling mother's desk looks like…
