Living in the Country.. Not so Bad After All.

I was a little apprehensive to move to the country 15 years ago. I didn’t want to be far from the mall or from civilization. I wasn’t sure if I would be accepted by the people out here. I knew I didn’t want to have anything to do with low water bridges or trekking miles into town to get a gallon of milk. I didn’t know is how beautiful it can be in the country.

Every late summer these Sunflowers grow along the road to my house.

I wonder if these are really sunflowers or if they are Black Eyed Susan’s?

Here’s some Kansas barbed wire with the yellow sunflowers in the background.

Don’t tell The Man.. But I am really glad I moved out here.

It’s Patio Time…

There has been a lot of debate in my house on what to do with the back of the house. I believe there should be a deck, and the man thinks there should be a patio. He reminded me of our rule… "He takes care of the outside and I take care of the inside." To some people that is really weird, but I married Ward and June Cleaver’s son and that’s how he rolls.

The Man and I looked at every paver in the Kansas City area. I picked out a paver that would go with our natural rock we have "growing" here around our house.

This frog is sitting on one of the rocks. See how it’s a light tan color with white?

This is what he came home with.. Not exactly tan..

Here’s an aerial view of the patio area… please excuse the screen I took it from the school

room window and didn’t open the window. (I’m lazy like that)

The Man had to do a lot of digging and leveling to get this patio thing right.

Not to mention 2 TON’s of gravel was brought in…. (here’s #2 and #6 (my adopted weekend son)

Here’s The Man doing his part shoving gravel..

I’m not sure what this photos shows.. other than gravel.. dirt, and a some

piece of equipment that #2 was super impressed with.. and his father

wouldn’t let him operate.

Many loads of gravel were hauled. Here’s #2 and my adopted (only on the weekends) #6.

We had lots of help…

Lot’s of gravel.. loads.

Many supervisors…

And.. it’s still not done. I believe we will be working on it this weekend.
When I say "we" I don’t really mean "me". 😉 Remember I only work "inside".

Bicycle Helmets Remind me of Eric Cartman (South Park)

The Man is on this bicycle kick.. He’s bought himself and all the kids a new bikes.

The other night he brought home helmets. As a mother I have nothing against helmets. I think they are awesome and save lives. But the dark, non-mother side of me can only see Eric Cartman on South Park in his bike helmet when I look at my sweet #2 in his.

He tried on his helmet and he looks nice in it.

But I started laughing (because I was thinking of South Park) to which he gave me this look

Which only made me laugh more.

The Man was like.. “what’s your problem?” I want to tell him, but the

kid keeps making these goofy faces… like this one:

I’m a bad mother. Please don’t tell the bike safety commission.

Fair Food can Make You Chubby, but it Sure Tastes Good

I had plans yesterday to talk about my experience with Fair Food… but after #5 took several years off of my life by disappearing in the middle of the fairgrounds.. I couldn’t do anything but hold him all night.

So now that I am better.. I want to take this opportunity to talk to you about the food you get at the fair..

I don’t know what this is called… I believe it was refered to as “popcorn” But I’ve never had popcorn like this before. It was given to me my by my friend.. who is about 1/4 of an inch taller than me.. and is entering in the 3rd grade. (that’s his steel toed boot in the photo). I believe he won a purple ribbon for this concoction. It has Giant Rice Krispie’s, popcorn, tiny M&M’s, white chocolate and peanut butter. It was delicious.

(Note to self.. when this kid enters 6th grade he will need to bring this in order to enter in the youth room)

Yes.. these cucumbers were really this bright green.

Peppers or Squash anyone?

Some would say this isn’t fair food.. but it could be one day.. do you see #5 and the man in the background? I wonder what they are talking about?

This is the whole reason I go to the fair.. Giant Corn Dogs.. oh and to see #4 happy.

#5 holding up his giant corn dog.. see the fries on the napkin? They were scarfed down before I could take a photo.

ooo-ooH.. I love a good funnel cake too.
