Dear eBay Queen: How to Avoid the eBay Buyer Drama

Dear eBay Queen:

I’m not sure what to do. I sold a super cute Lily Pulitzer dress that I wore one time to a wedding. It sold for 148.00 with free shipping. The dress was in perfect condition. The buyer left me positive feedback that was a little bit negative.

Pretty dress the pink isn’t as pink as it should be”

I messaged the buyer and asked them if they were happy, and this is what she said:

“The dress is lovely, but I just didn’t think it was the right shade of “lily” pink. I live in Miami Beach you know, and Lily is all the rage here. I did wear it to Mass and brunch on Sunday, and it got rave reviews. I took it into the Lily Pulitzer store, and they told me it was authentic. That is why you didn’t get the feedback I thought the dress deserved for not being as pink as I needed it to be.”

I responded with:

“I’m sorry the dress wasn’t as pink as you thought it should be. I would offer a refund, but since you’ve worn the dress and received compliments, I cannot offer that refund, once you’ve sent it back. Thank you again for letting me know there was a problem”.

She responds with:

“Is there a way to revise my feedback? I should have given you a negative for your smartness!”

Do you think I should just leave this alone? Should I offer her a partial refund? Is there a way for them to change this positive into a negative? Should I respond to the positive feedback?

Gigi S

Dear Gigi:

I would not respond to her feedback or to any of her other messages. I would block this buyer and try to forget about her. If you were to respond, then she could also put a response in, and who needs that kind of drama?

Dear eBay Queen:

This is quite possibly the strangest thing I’ve ever had happen to me on eBay. I sell vintage plush and toys. I have an extensive cataloging system that keeps track of my items with photographs, sizes, price I paid and sold the item for. I also do this with my vintage toys, but haven’t been doing it for as long with the toys.

I sold a large Animal Fair Henry the Dog 2 weeks ago. The buyer messages me and tells me it is not the correct size, and does not match up with my listing. I know that Animal Fair Henry only came in a couple of sizes, so I ask her what size is this Henry? She doesn’t respond.   A couple of days go by, and I am looking through my catalog and I see that I sold four years ago (yes it was really four years ago.) the same size Animal Fair Henry to this same buyer. I called eBay Seller support, and was on hold for 1 hour and 43 minutes without them ever answering. I went back into the return request, and asked the buyer if she could give me the measurements of the item that I sent. She responds to the case and says:

“It doesn’t matter, I want to return it!”

I respond to her this: “I see you are a seller also, and it does matter when someone says that you did not measure something correctly.   Animal Fair Henry only comes in a few sizes, and those are NOT close to being the same size as each other. If you want to return this simply because you do not want it, that is fine, but to say I did not measure it correctly will give me a defect. I did do some checking in my records and see that you purchased the same Animal Fair Henry plush from me 4 years ago. Did you make a mistake and not realize you purchased the same size plush? I don’t want you to be upset with me, but I know that I measured this correctly. Could you please measure this?”

She responds with: “You are an idiot. I don’t want it. Accept this return and take your defect like a man.”
I have not responded after this. Can you let me know what I should do with this problem? Should I just go ahead and accept the return and take the hit?

Henry

Dear Henry:

I would call eBay either early in the morning, or late afternoon. If the system tells you it’s a 10 minute wait, and you are on hold past 30minutes I would hang up and try again until you get through. This buyer is not being truthful I believe she wants to return it without paying for the shipping. I hope that eBay sees it the same way. I would make sure you tell eBay that they purchased the exact same item from you several years ago. If you have the date and the item number, I would make sure you can give it to them.

eBay Arbitrage and Best Offer

resale

I received this best offer the other day.  The buyer made me a 20.00 offer on an item that I have listed for 44.99 and retails for 65.99.  I counter offered with 38.00 and they countered with 33.00 and this statement:

“Hi there, for resale.  This offer is the best I can do. I have no more wiggle room for resale  Hope you will consider.”

This is kind of weird to me.  I think I’ve heard every sad story about not having enough money, a buyers mother, grandmother once owned something and it’s her last dying wish to have this etc… But I’ve never had someone do this.  What do you think ab

Why eBay Should Allow US to See What a Buyer Purchases…

Once upon a time on eBay… I was able to see what buyers were bidding and buying .  I didn’t really use this to be a nosy person, more to see if they might be scamming me or trying to get something for nothing.

Example 1:

I had a buyer want to return a black cat cookie jar.  When I received it back, it was not the cookie jar I sent them, but a similar style, and a OWL.  I went and looked at their purchase history, I see they purchase the cat from me, a cat from someone else and an owl.  I messaged them and they apologized and told me they confused their purchases.  They paid to send the owl back, and it was over.  If that happened on eBay today, I’d have no proof to show the buyer what they did.

Example 2:

A buyer messaged me told me the silverware I sent was not in the wood box as shown, and it was 8 pieces short.  I was able to look up what they purchased, remind them they bought silverware from someone else, and then let them know that *my* item hadn’t even arrived yet.

I recently found Watch Count.

If you’ve not checked out this service.. you should.  It really helped me out with a buyer that thought I should finance their lace underwear for 30days.

mrsbspHello, Mrs. B here IF?? I Bid on these Persay? & Win them as well???? would you be willing to Wait for Payment on Nov 18th when My ss check comes in?? So Please!!!! let ME know either way ASAP!!!! Thanks Mrs BPs!! I would LOVE to have them.

I thought this was odd.  The underwear were under 10.00, so I went to check out their WATCH COUNT to see what they’ve bid on… Turns out they seem to be bidding on quite a bit.

mrsbsp6

 mrsbsp7

They’ve bid on 33 items and paid as much as 33.00 for a pair of underwear.  They also like baby blankets….  I didn’t want to be rude, but I also didn’t want to be taken advantage of, so I thought I’ll just let them know I can not wait from mid October to November 18th for payment.

mrsbsp2

I responded with “I don’t know that I can wait a month for payment.”

I thought it would be best to not point out that they were still actively buying things without any money AND that social security checks come out on the first of the month.

mrsbsp4They responded with “thanks anyway i changed my mind i don’t want them now i’ii look somewhere elese alot cheaiper at that.”

So this kind of annoyed me.. I mean, don’t insult me by telling me you can buy “somewhere elese” lace panties  “cheaiper”so I responded with:

mrsbsp3I did a little checking, and it appears that all SS checks go out on the first.  eBay is not a layaway program.  I went and looked at your buying records, and see that you have enough money now to buy things… I see that “Mrs” B buys a lot of lace underwear and baby blankets.

I wish you much luck in the future.

They responded with..

mrsbsp5“WHY ?????? don’t you mind your own Dm’n BUSSINEss & DROP DEAD TOO AND KISS MY you know what !!!!!!!!”

You think that “Mrs” B means his lace covered “you know what”?

Dear eBay Queen: My Buyer is Scamming me!

Dear eBay Queen:

I think it’s not eBay legal to do what this buyer did to me. I sell authentic Apple ear buds, Beats by Dre headphones and phone cases. An eBay customer purchased a set of Apple ear buds from me, on Wednesday the 14th of October. I sent them out the same day. He left me negative feedback on Tuesday the 20th, because they had not arrived yet. When I check the scans, they say “attempted not delivered.” The negative that he left me was ‘Took a week to ship bad example of eBayer AVOID” I sent him a message, and let him know that the post office attempted delivery, and were at his post office now. He responded: “Do you work for the Post Office? What a ___expletive__ bad liar you are! I needed those headphones NOW. You will pay dearly for this delay.”
About 15 minutes after his email I received an Item not Received case. He demanded an immediate refund in the case. I wasn’t sure what to do and responded with the tracking info. I contacted eBay the next day when I saw that he picked it up at the post office. eBay closed the case and removed the feedback. I thought it would be over, but it was not. I forgot to block this doofus, and he ordered ANOTHER set of Apple ear buds. I sent them out, and he received them within 3 days. He left me ANOTHER negative that reads: “Does not sell authentic goods, scammer & not worth my time.” Then just like before, he opens a case, but this time Item Not as Described. He says in the case that the ear buds are not authentic, and that he wants me removed from eBay for being a fraud. I respond that the items are authentic, if he would like to return these, they would need to be in my original box. He responds that he has thrown them away! I’ve tried to call eBay 3 times, and I’m put on hold for 1hour + waiting to talk to someone. While on hold the 3rd time I found your website. Maybe you can give me some insight on what to do? Is this considered retaliatory feedback? If I ever get a hold of eBay what should I say?

SRD

Dear SRD:

I know I am telling you something you already know, but once a buyer shows that they have issues, it’s important to block them so that they don’t buy from you again. Or if they do attempt using someone else ID you have proof you blocked them. I know in the last couple of days eBay has been having problems with their phones. Keep trying. If you are on hold longer than 20 minutes past the estimated wait time I would hang up and try again. When you call and get through make sure you touch on these points.
• He had a complaint about the first item you sent, and it was found to be not valid
• He has threatened to bring your business down.
• You forgot to block him and he bought something else ONLY to leave negative feedback.
• If they look up the ratio of positive to negative feedback, it’s about 50% negative that he leaves.
• With the exception of his current negative, you have had no one (except him) accuse you of selling items that are not authentic.
• You can not ask him to send the item back because he has “thrown the item away”
• You are sure this should be considered retaliatory feedback.
I hope this is removed for you, and that you block this guy.
