Dear eBay Queen: Is There Such A Thing As An eBay Friend?

Dear eBay Queen:

I really need someone that I can talk to about my eBay success’ and problems.  Is there such a thing?  Where can I find one?  I sometimes just feel a little isolated doing what I do.

RTT, Oklahoma

Dear RTT:

I have a few really good eBay friends.  I met most of them on Yahoo groups ( a billion years ago).  Yahoo groups have gone out with the times, but Facebook groups are kind of the same now.  There are so many Facebook groups you can join relating to eBay.  Here are a few that I love (in no particular order)

You can also try the eBay boards, or even a local meet up group.

I met one of my best friends at a local auction house.  She would bid against me on what seems like every item I would try to buy!  We’ve known each other about 18 years.  She is the one I call when I need help loading my car, or when I want to tell some crazy story about being hexed on eBay. 😉  If you can find a friend like Tammy I would recommend one.

The one draw back I can think to having an eBay friend.. is you want to make sure they won’t give out your eBay secrets or maybe your “eBay fishing hole”.  I hope you find your Tammy!

That Time I Got a Hex Put On Me.

A couple of weeks ago I had a buyer upset that an item they purchase went on sale.  She wanted a partial refund OR wanted to return it and purchase it at the sale price.   We have a public rule that states “we do not give refunds on previous non-sale orders.”  I offered a full refund once the item was sent back.

(I know that it would be easier to give a partial refund.  This is not my account, and I follow the rules that have been set forth for me.)

Of course she could not just accept the label and send the item back.  Instead she opened a return request, then a PayPal request.  The return request was closed because you can’t have 2 requests opened at the same time for the same item.

She made some feedback threats on this item and on the other items she had purchased.  She left a message for me saying she was a “practicing witch and was going to put a hex on me”.  At this point I was not too worried but I blocked her from purchasing from us again.

She sent several messages through PayPal not wanting to send the item back. Time was dwindling and she ended up sending it.  When it arrived she was refunded.

Here comes the good part:

She systematically opened a SNAD return request on eBay and left a negative for each item that she purchased before that original non-sale item that she bought.

FOUR of them.

FOUR negatives and 4 open SNAD claims. She also put bad reviews on the company’s Facebook, website  and several other complaint sites.

Each return has a special note for me.

The notes are custom written for me and because they lack kind words and grammar, I probably should not post them here.  But I can tell you one of them said; “I am a retired person of great wealth. You are missing out on my purchases.  There are other sellers out there, I will buy from them.”

Please do.

Did the Hex work? Who can say? eBay removed the negatives, and a this point I’m glad to move on from this bizarre experience.  What is you most bizarre eBay experience?

Fancy Dresses, Return Policies and Animal Hair?

We had a buyer that did not read the return policy on evening gowns.  She left a negative and in order for us to try to get the negative removed we allowed her to return it.   I made sure to ask if the item had been worn, and if it still was new with tags.  She assured me it was in perfect condition.

Here’s how I received it back.

Do you think it was worn?

I messaged the buyer and asked her the following:

“I received the dress yesterday. I have attached photos of the dress. It appears you have worn the dress. There is hair and dry skin ALL over the inside and outside of this dress.
The tags have been removed and put on by a safety pin.”

She responds:

“I DID NOT WEAR THIS DRESS. IF THERE WAS ANY HAIR ON IT, THERE MIGHT HAVE BEEN SOME FROM MY DOG, BUT THE TAGS WERE N E V E R REMOVED. I am going to start an action against you. You just asked me to send this back so that you have the dress, I have nothing, and now you are FABRICATING LIES to try and get out of a refund. THESE TAGS WERE NEVER REMOVED!!!!! IF THEY WERE PUT ON BY A XXXX SAFETY PIN, IT’S YOU WHO DID IT!!!!!! YOU ARE COMMITTING FRAUD AND YOU ARE NOT GOING TO GET AWAY WITH THIS!! I HAVE BEEN A 100% EBAYER FOR MANY YEARS AND YOU ARE THE ABSOLUTE WORST SELLER I HAVE EVER HAD THE MISFORTUNE OF DEALING WITH!!! YOU ARE CROOKS!!!!!!”

eBay closed the case in our favor an removed the negative because she altered the dress by her own omission, saying “it might have been some from my dog”

I messaged the buyer back:

“We are not out to take your money and the product.  We just want the item (that we said no returns accepted) to be returned in the condition that we sent it to you in. Did you view the photos? There is hair all over this, and it looks like the dog laid on it. To accept this return I would have to take an even bigger loss because I can’t sell it as new AND pay to have it dry cleaned. It was new with tags and no pet hair/human hair when we sent it.

Here are the options I an give you.
1. Do you want me to send the item back to you and you can sell it.
2 Do you want us to keep the item and give you a partial refund for the item (15% less). to cover dry cleaning.

I am very sorry about this Please let me know which you’d like for me to do: send the item back to you or give you a partial refund.”

I’d love to share with you her message back to me, but as you can imagine it was not pleasant.
