Winter Jam… Ice Roads and a Suite Time

The 31st was WINTER JAM day.  If you don't know what Winter Jam.. it's 10 Christian bands in one place on one day for $10.  There is not assigned seating, so we try to get there pretty early and wait in line so we can get a good seat.

When we pulled up to the Sprint Center there wasn't anyone there waiting… You know what that means… FIRST IN LINE!

winterjam2These children were pretty happy about that.

We had a plan for this cold last day of January.  #3 and 3.5 would stand in line for an hour, while #2 and #4 would go to Consentinos and warm up. Then they would switch.

Here they are waiting….

While they were waiting #5 and I did a little shopping, ran some errands… and you know hung out with a few Lego people.  I knew the weather had the potential to be bad on Friday, but I didn't think it was going to get icy until AFTER the concert was over.  Right after this photo was taken I receive a phone call that the roads were really bad, and that none of the others that were coming up to meet us wanted to take a chance on the icy roads.  I called #2 to let him know and he informed me that #3, #3.5 and #4 received passes and were getting into Winter Jam early… he didn't want to wait any longer and was going to take a taxi to where I was…

As it turns out he couldn't get a taxi, so he rented a bike to come see me.  I don't know if you can tell by the picture, but it was raining little ice pelts in this picture. Since we were about 60 miles from our house… I thought it would be best if we stayed at a hotel, and maybe the weather would be better in the morning.

Here they are all safe and snug in our hotel room.

And again…

LUNCH!

These people look cool sitting outside and enjoying the day.. networking and eating. This violates all my rules.

  1. I don't eat outside
  2. I don't sit on the ground outside.
  3. See rule #1

I sat in this room most of the day. You know what impressed me? That little "pop up" plug in on the desk. I would love to have some of those in the school room.

After it was over we all headed over to the Marriott Bar for a tweet up.

Guess who's not old enough to go to a bar?

So I took him to get a shake.

American Girl Store Opening Overland Park Kansas

Last week was #3’s birthday.  I’ve never been one of those “birthday party” parents.  I just don’t have confidence in my party throwing abilities.  #3 loves anything that has to do with American Girl Dolls, so it was very lucky they decided to have their grand opening on her birthday weekend.

american girl store, Kansas City, Overland park,

#3 and her Doll in front of the Grand Opening Sign.

We arrived at Oak Park Mall at 9:15 on Sunday.  I knew the first 200 people in line received a goody bag.  I hoped by arriving 3 hours before it opened would insure we got that bag!  We were given ticket numbers 91-94 which meant we were one of the first 200!  Now all we had to do is wait.. and take some photos.

Here’s #3 and two of her good friends with their American Girl Dolls.

This photo was taken around 9:30.. The first 200 hadn’t

been reached yet.

Here’s that same photo at 9:45..

Here’s what happened when you got there after 10:00.. you became

one of the first 400.  By the time it was 11:00 (when the store opened)

there were 800 people waiting behind us!

As we moved from inside the mall to outside the mall.. into

the American Girl Store.. you could see there was a large

police presence.   (Yes that’s a real gun on that policeman)..

As we were waiting to go inside this little boy walked by and

said; “They have policeman here? What are these girls gonna

do?”

I loved this light in the entryway to the store.

#3 Checking out the cool stuff.

She loved Lanie’s Camper.

Everyone with us wanted this blue dress.

Did you know you could get your doll’s hair fixed?

Just in case you wondered.. there were lots of these guys there too.

It’s not a shock to me that #3 bought this set.

I think she’s pretty excited. Happy Birthday #3.. I’m glad the American Girl Store had their Grand Opening on your birthday 🙂
